Seasonal Activities

Symbols

Every holiday has a symbol or symbols related to it. We like to include seasonal activities for some holidays. For example, Easter has a cross and sacrament. On the other hand, it could also have a rabbit and eggs, too. For Americans, the Fourth of July has the American flag and fireworks. The declaration of independence is a symbol of that day, as well.

As a family, we enjoy celebrating various holidays together. While we celebrate, we want to emphasize certain meanings with seasonal activities. I think that will help my kiddos appreciate some holidays. During different celebrations or holidays, we like to do some activities that correspond. For example, for November, we have a thankful pumpkin. For December we have a Christmas card. My kids seem to enjoy, and even look forward to, these activities (or traditions).

Less Stress

Often times, lives get so very busy. I don’t like to run from one activity to the next. And I don’t care to just celebrate something for the sake of celebrating. There does not seem to be much meaning in doing that. We like to keep things simple, while still appreciating the holiday. I will admit, though, that sometimes we do get caught up with too many activities.
