Welcome Letter: The Elf on the Shelf Day 2

On December 2nd, my kiddos woke up, eagerly searching to see our new visitor. They found him in the dining room. He was “hanging out” on the chandelier above the table. Scout brought our family a welcome letter.

In his letter, he thanked them for giving him a name. On the first day my middle son pointed out that our elf had a tag on its back. It was the kind of tag that toys have when they come from a store: a care tag. In his letter, Scout mentioned about having a tag before being assigned to a family. When scout elves are named and welcomed into the family’s home the tag is removed. It helps them to fly better without it. Also, the elves have the tags on until they are accepted by a family. That helps to identify those who still need an assignment.

The Welcome Letter

“GREETINGS, FAMILY!

I SURE AM GLAD TO BE A PART OF YOUR FAMILY FOR A FEW WEEKS!  YOUR FAMILY IS MY FIRST ASSIGNMENT; I WAS HOPING YOU WOULD NAME ME.  IF YOU DID NOT I WOULD HAVE HAD TO START MY SCOUT TRAINING ALL OVER AGAIN, IT TOOK ME ALMOST 100 YEARS TO GET THIS FAR. PLUS, I WOULD HAVE BEEN SENT TO A DIFFERENT FAMILY. I LOVE MY NAME!!!! SOME OF MY FRIENDS CAME BACK WITH NAMES LIKE ROCK, GNOME AND TINKLE TOES, I’M GLAD YOU DIDN’T NAME ME TINKLE TOES J

NOW THAT YOU ACCEPTED ME, I WAS ALLOWED TO HAVE MY TAGS REMOVED. THE TRAINING ELVES KEEP THE TAGS ON US UNTIL WE ARE NAMED SO THEY CAN IDENTIFY WHO HAS A FAMILY FROM ONES THAT DO NOT YET.  SO, I WANT TO THANK YOU! IT IS WONDERFUL TO BE ACCEPTED.  ALSO, I FOUND THAT I CAN TRAVEL EVEN FASTER WITHOUT THE TAGS SLOWING ME DOWN. I THINK THEY DID LEAVE A BIT OF A SNIPPET WHERE THE TAG WAS, BUT THAT IS ALRIGHT.

NOW, I MUST TELL YOU THAT I ENJOYED WATCHING YOU PLAY TOGETHER. HOWEVER, I HOPE TO SEE THE PAINT CLEANED OFF THE FLOOR UPSTAIRS AND THAT ROOM WITH ALL OF THE TOYS COULD USE A LITTLE ORGANIZATION. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GIVING A POSITIVE REPORT SOON, AS I KNOW YOU CAN GET THOSE TASKS TAKEN CARE OF FASTER THAN THE REINDEER CAN FLY!

I AM NOT GOING TO WRITE YOU MANY LETTERS, AS I HAVE SO MUCH WORK TO DO. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW YOU ALL.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND REMEMBER I AM WATCHING!

-SCOUT”

Appearance of the Welcome Letter

The above letter was surrounded by red and white striped edging. The edging resembled a candy cane. It resembled the border below, and was adjustable to fit whatever size letter necessary. I just did an online search for “free candy cane border.” Out of the very many available, I found one I liked and downloaded it. Inside the border I added a text box. I adjusted the size of border and the text box as needed.
