Being creative is important in many aspects of life. We encourage our kids to use their ideas and creativity whenever they are able to.
Theme Parties
Theme parties can be so fun. Also, they can cause so much stress and pressure to have a pinterest-worthy party. For me, simple is better and less stressful. Birthday parties allow me to be creative in doing something for each of my children. That can be specific to each child’s interests.
Creative Kids Crafts
Making crafts allows them to create something out of a few materials. For example, they like to use different materials to make a boat. Then, they are excited to see if it floats and how much weight it can hold. All three of my boys enjoy building and being creative with Legos. For example, they enjoy sets and random ‘bricks’ alike. Following directions to make something specific keeps their interest. Also, making something on their own and being creative as to what their project is uses unique thinking.
Children’s Book Suggestions
Reading to kids is important in language development. Additionally, reading encourages children to use their imaginations and creative ideas. Some books I read inspire my own kids. For example, using the book as a template, they make up their own stories. Now, my older two enjoy reading, as well.
Creative Seasonal Ideas/ Activities
Celebrating holidays and other activities is something that is part of my family’s lives. With as busy as life is and all the ‘stuff’ that we do, sometimes it is important to be simpler. There are so many holidays to celebrate, involvement in all of them is impossible. In addition, some holidays (like Christmas) bring so many activities to fill the calendar. As parents, we want to enable our children to enjoy and experience different celebrations and activities. Also, we feel it is important to keep things simple and not overwhelming with the busyness. Our family likes to do a few activities around holidays to encourage traditions, appreciation and meaning.
